Elder Chris Alston is an Associate Minister at Perfecting Faith Community Church in Fort Worth Texas. He has held several positions in the church from Usher, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher for the kids and adults to name a few. His education consists of two Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and Technical Management.

He has a Master of Science in Christian Studies from Criswell College in Dallas Texas and a Master in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University in Arizona. He served 20 years in the United States Army from Sept 1983 to Oct 2003 before retiring and becoming a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps teacher in 2003 to present date.

He is a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion and The Retire Enlisted Association along with several other national organizations.

Pastor William Earl Becton, Jr. is a native Washingtonian and graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Arts. An American gospel musician, he started his music career, in 1995, with the release of, Broken, that was released by Intersound Records.  He continued his education by earning a Master’s Degree in Theology from Life Christian University.  He founded House of Worship Ministries (HOW) Charlotte, NC in 2010 and is in the process of expanding to the Raleigh, NC area. HOW is an affiliate of Kingdom Purpose Worship Center. The music of William Becton and Friends is a modern approach to gospel music.  Pastor Becton’s goal is the same as it was when he started his musical journey: to encourage the soul, heal the broken hearted and tend to God’s people. 

Since 1991, Debbie has been an Employee Assistance Counselor with the Smithsonian Institution. Confidential counseling and referral services are free of charge and provided to all employees. The focus is employees; however, services are also available for spouses, partners and children for brief periods. In addition, management consultation and training are available.

Debbie earned a BS in Social Work with a minor in Criminology from Colorado State University- Fort Collins, Colorado. In 1984, she earned her Master of Social Work with an emphasis in Gerontology from Howard University-Washington, DC. She is a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP). She constantly seeks to improve her skills and attends local workshops, monthly EAP meetings and a yearly international EAP conference.

From 1985-1991 she was employed as an inpatient Social Worker with assaultive, aggressive adults at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. In May 1991 she joined the EAP staff at Smithsonian. Debbie has 39 years of experience in a variety of settings with diverse clients, areas of expertise include:

-Anxiety, Depression and Stress

-Grief and Loss-at home and at work

-Life Stressors: Illness, Divorce, Finances, Family Matters, Workplace Challenges, Disability and Accommodations

-Alcohol and Substance Abuse

In 2002, she was selected as a Smithsonian Institution Unsung Hero. For outstanding performance, she has received cash and time off awards. Each year she receives letters of thanks from employees and managers.

Debbie strongly believes that positive change occurs when individuals are given needed guidance to access their strengths. She provides an environment of compassion and support to enable employees to move forward and thrive and is committed to the health and well-being of employees.

 In 1972 Reverend Barbara (Duncan) Jackson became a member of Liberty Baptist Church (by Christian experience and baptism). In June 1993 she was called into the gospel ministry and tutored under the late Rev. Richard M. Rice, laboring as: Church Administrator, Sunday School Instructor, Vacation Bible School Director, Bible Study Instructor and Women’s Coordinator. She is a graduate of Hart Jr. High, Ballou and Cardoza Senior High Schools (Wash. DC) She remains the first female preacher to be “licensed and ordained to preach the gospel” in the 150 year old history of Liberty Baptist Church. She is also the first ever Liberty Baptist Church Administrator (2008) She is the first to develop, organize and launch the Liberty BC Women’s Ministry (2007) She served to train and catechize four deacons ordination and installation.  Rev. Dr. Isaac A. Fox was born to the late Susie and Ned Will Fox in Nashville, North Carolina where he received his elementary and high school education. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Shaw University, Raleigh, North Carolina. He did further study in chemistry and was a candidate for the Master of Science in Science teaching (MSST©) from American University in Washington, D.C.

In addition, Rev. Fox received a Master of Science (MS) in Information Science from the University of the District of Columbia and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Howard University School of Divinity, where he received the Bishop Wilfred Hood Award.

He did further study in the Doctor of Ministry Program at the University of Virginia at Lynchburg in Lynchburg, Virginia, and the Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary in Newburgh IN. He competed all the requirements for the Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) and was awarded this degree in 2011 from the Esoteric Theological Seminary (ETS). He wrote his dissertation on “Fundamentalism and its effect on Christian Ethics”. 

Under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. John R. Wheeler, Rev. Fox served as a Deacon and General Superintendent of Sunday School at Vermont Avenue Baptist Church for seventeen years. He preached his initial sermon and was licensed, on January 31, 1995, and then ordained on August 16, 1997. Upon ordination, Rev. Fox served as Assistant to the Pastor for Sick Visitation and Pastoral Care for ten years. Rev Fox continued to serve under Rev Cornelius R. Wheeler until he retired due to health concerns, at which time he was voted in as Interim Pastor. He served in that capacity from July 31, 2016 to  April 30, 2018 when a new Pastor was selected.

Rev. Fox, a Korean Veteran, is a Paid Up For Life (PUFL) member of the George S. Patton, Jr. Tank Corps, Post #19 of the American Legion, Washington, D.C., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, and the Missionary Baptist Ministers Conference of Washington D.C. and Vicinity. 

Rev. Fox is married to the former Miss Jessie M. Bullock. They have been blessed with two daughters, Angela (Clayton) and Natalie (Allan) and four grandchildren Christopher, Cynthia, and Curtis Wheeler and Allan Holtz Jr. His centering passage of Scripture is Micah 6:8: “He has shown you O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

Rev. Fox’s passion is music, studying Scripture and ministering to the elderly and those who are lonely sick, and hurting.

UPDATE: It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Serena Holtz on May 11, 2023. Many of you watched her share her faith in God while dealing with cancer.

Serena participated in radio talk shows and created a breast cancer support group called “Livin’ The Pink Life!” which hosts an annual fundraising gala every year. She was captain of team Livin’ the Pink Life! for the Relay for Life walk done each year. Serena was also captain of team “Kingdom Women” for her church, Kingdom Fellowship AME, as they participated in Susan G. Komen’s “More than Pink” event annually.

She formerly worked as a clinic charge nurse and a clinical nursing supervisor at several Prince George’s County Health Department clinics, working in the prenatal, post-partum, and family planning clinics as well as the STD, TB and Healthy Teens and Young Adults Health Center.

Active in her church, Mrs. Holtz served on the leadership committee for Kingdom Fellowship AME Church's Women’s Ministry, Marriage and Thrive Ministries as well as the Adoration Choir. 

Rev. Shaun L. Johnson is a native of Reidsville, NC and has lived in the District of Columbia. Rev. Johnson accepted the call to ministry in 1986 and began preaching at the age of 19.

He has served in various ministry capacities (assistant pastor, director of music & arts, director of college ministry, etc.) and is currently serves as associate minister at Calvary Apostolic Community Church in Fredericksburg, VA.

Sheena is committed with love to serving for the glory of God.

With over 20 years of experience, Sheena serves as a skilled workforce and family development specialist. She passionately works with homeless families under the District of Columbia's Family Re-housing and Stabilization Program and works with domestic violence organizations. Sheena proudly serves as a Liaison for Health & Human Services in the District of Columbia.

Sheena adores her family. She is committed to the ministry of marriage with her husband of over 20 years - Ramon Moton and is a mother of 5 daunting boys residing in the DMV area. Working in the school system for 30 years, she has seen many “at risk” children. Realizing that so many of the young people she has worked with would thrive if they had the family support they needed, she was moved to form Transitions in Rock Hill, NC. 

Transitions (Fostering Better Futures), will help foster and “at risk” youth transition into adulthood by providing (training in life skills; college/vocational preparation; money management; college field trips; mentoring; housing assistance)

Shawn joined Vermont Avenue Baptist Church in 2001 under the pastorate of the late Reverend Dr. John Rayford Wheeler. During his time at VABC, Shawn has served in many ministries such as the Music Ministry, Prayer Meeting, and

most recently as a Sunday School Teacher.  Shawn’s hobbies include planning programs and events, doing community service with non-profit organizations, traveling, and shopping. 

Most notably he is known for singing and encouraging people with prayer and reading scriptures to build their faith. His favorite scripture for the body of Christ is Isaiah 53:1 which states, “Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?”

Upon graduation from Elizabeth Seton Catholic High School, she matriculated and completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Howard University. She is a member of Vermont Avenue Baptist Church; and has been a Sunday School teacher for 25+ years. She is the wife of Lloyd A. Moore, mother of Corey Samuel Moore and grandmother to Taylor Lynn Moore and Rainier Moore. Mrs. Moore has worked for several non-profits in and around Washington, D.C. Her love for the non-profit sector is driven by her belief that “to much is given, much is required.” When asked, “what do you most enjoy doing?” She will answer, “making her friends always feel special and being their staunchest supporter through the word of GOD”. 

 Dr. Barbara Tobias was born and reared in Southern California. She was educated as a nurse at Washburn University, located in Topeka Kansas, earning a BSN and later as a nurse educator earning a MSN from Clemson University, Clemson, SC.. She was the second African American woman to earn a Master of Science in Family Health Nursing from Clemson. She earned a PhD in Counseling Psychology from APA approved The University of Georgia, Athens Georgia in 1998. She served as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Howard University 1998-2003. She taught as an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at Argosy University from 2002 through 2013 inclusive of full time and as adjunct status. She has served as a court appointed Examiner for the District of Columbia Probate Court, provided supervision for clinical psychology externs, post graduate doctoral level psychology associates, masters level professional counselors and masters level social workers. She maintained a full time private practice for ten years. She has provided clinical consultation for the University of Maryland Counseling Center. She is founder of the Relationship Academy. She is licensed to practice Psychology in Maryland and the District of Columbia. She currently maintains a private practice, Evolving Relationships, LLC 

She is the daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. Benjamin F. James, Sr. She is a life-long member of Vermont Avenue Baptist Church. She has been a faithful servant in various Ministries at the church for over 50 years including serving as a member of the Vermont Avenue Baptist Church Ministerial Staff, Assistant Minister of Music, Choir Directress for the Sanctuary Choir, Women’s Day Mass Choir, and the Children’s Worship Hour Choir. Minister Wallace has also served as the Superintendent of the Vermont Avenue Baptist Church Nursery, a teacher in the church’s Sunday School Department, Assistant Worship leader in the VABC weekly Prayer Service, and a member of the VABC Worship Planning Committee. Since the current global pandemic, Minister Wallace has partnered with a team of worship leaders in leading a weekly virtual worship service called “Prayer and Praise Across the Miles Ministry”.

Minister Wallace enjoys preaching, teaching, traveling, and composing music. One of her musical compositions, “The Night That Christ Was Born”, was featured and presented to a nation-wide audience at the Gospel Music Workshop of America’s New Music Seminar in Atlanta Georgia in July, 2014. This composition was nominated for inclusion in a nationally-acclaimed Choral Music Symposium for publication.
